Do people use external RF power amplifiers with handhelds?  I've never seen such a thing.  If it is asking about the component that amplifies the modulated RF, I suppose this is right but it's a weird way to ask it.

When I saw someone APRS beaconing in a vehicle with a portable & I asked them how, they told me "I use the VX-8G with an amplifier behind it. It is probably doing 30 watts into a lip mount on my Mustang."
